Typhon Services - Upgrades

Question:
How can I receive upgrade packages or software fixes ?
Answer:

When obtaining a new Typhon license, you have also purchased the 1-year maintenance contract. This maintenance contract provides you the right to receive upgrades and software fixes during the first year after the Typhon commissioning.
After the 1st year you have the choice to prolong your maintenance contract. By doing so you automatically will continue to receive the updates. Without a maintenance contract it is not possible to receive software updates.

Contact your reseller for more information on the maintenance contract. Maintenance contract also give the user to get additional reduction when upgrading their Typhon server to a new version. Jix Solutions only gives 2nd line of support to servers with a maintenance contract. All Jix Solutions' 1st line of support is given through resellers.


Question:
How do I apply a upgrades or software fixes ?
Answer: Applying upgrades of services or applying software fixes is very easy and straightforward. It does not require any technical knowledge of Linux or open source in order to apply them. Go to the menu Services and Updates and click on Updates. In this screen you'll find all the latest available software packages or services which are available for your system. Select the service you would like to upgrade and the Typhon will automatically upgrade itself.

Question:
Are upgrades installed automatically ?
Answer:

No, new services or newly available software fixes are not applied automatically. It is the administrator who has to select the services that need to be installed. Only then the upgrades onto the Typhon will be executed. The administrator remains at all time the sole manager of the Typhon system.


Question:
Do I need to apply all other upgrades before applying the latest upgrades ?
Answer:

Since all the Typhon upgrades are cumulative, you don't need to apply the previous upgrades. It's sufficient to apply the latest upgrades as being displayed in the menu Services and Updates.


Question:
How can I trust the upgrade packages ?
Answer:

You can always trust your service upgrades and software fixes that are available in the menu Services and Updates. The embedded security authentication certificate allows to guarantee that only the correct and appropriate services or upgrades are available for your system. Therefore it is important that you're using the correct certificate. Contact your reseller for obtaining your certificate.


Question:
Can I update the services without losing my configuration settings, such as users and groups ?
Answer:

Yes, you can. The update system is specially build so that upgrades can be executed without losing any configuration settings, users, groups, files, mails or other data onto the server.


Question:
Can I downgrade certain services ?
Answer:

It is not possible to downgrade services within the upgrade screen automatically as it might be possible that other services make use of certain feature of the to-be-downgraded service. Therefore downgrading a service can affect other services.
